WEDNESDAY EVENT: Nine Years Since the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville
Next week will mark nine years since the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, which included neo-Nazis chanting “Jews will not replace us” and Donald Trump equating them with peaceful protestors, stating there were “very fine people on both sides.”
JDCA was founded in the immediate aftermath of Charlottesville to serve as a political home and voice for Jewish voters, and our mission has never been more important amid the persistent attacks on our democracy and the rise of Christian nationalism.
Join us as we look back on the lessons of Charlottesville, examine the rise of Christian nationalism and extremism today, and discuss how we can mobilize to defend our democracy, community, and constitutional rights, including freedom of religion and the separation of church and state.
Congressman Jared Huffman (CA-02) is the author of the powerful new book, No Prophets: The Fight to Save Democracy from Christian Nationalism, which exposes the dangerous influence of Christian nationalism in our government and offers a roadmap to defend secular democracy. Rachel Laser is the President and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and is the first woman and non-Christian to lead the organization.
